Most legal helmets do have one or the other mandated stickers on the outside. Mine is legal, and had the sticker when I bought it, but between sun, rain, and cheap manufacturing, the sticker has sloughed off. If one of our local safety Nazis wants to check it, fine, although doing so is technically a violation of the U.S. Bill or Rights amendment against unreasonable search and seizure. Most "helmet" inspection stops are just a form of hassling patch-holders, whom the cops seem to hate more than inner city gang bangers and other related low lifes.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
